Georgantas Athanasios

Athanassios Georgantas was born in Athens in 1984 and enrolled in 2002, through national examinations, in the Theological School of Athens. He graduated with a general degree qualification "Very good", while his grade was "Excellent" in the courses concerning Hagiography (Theory and Practice).

                  In the course of his study at the Theological School of Athens, he met the painter - hagiographer, Georgios Kordis, who was his Professor in the Hagiography Courses (Theory and Practice), and a key instigator for the further  practice and study of the Art of Hagiography, with the main emphasis given on Byzantine design.

            Along with his studies, he attended for four (4) years, during the period from 2003 to 2007, the Parish Laboratory of the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, in Neo Iraklio, Attica, where he worked also as an assistant for two (2) years, teaching the seniors in the aforesaid workshop.

            After graduating from the Theological School of Athens and for two (2) years, during the period from 2006 to 2008, he continued to further his knowledge and to pursuit the art of the Hagiography by attending the icon—making courses in the so-called "Eikonourgia" – A Society for the Study and Research of Hagiography, having as masters Georgios Kordis, Nektarios Mamais, Kanellos Kanellopoulos, and Stavros Tsakidis. Since 2009, he is a member of the Pan-Hellenic Association of Hagiographers (PA.SY.A.).

            He has attended seminars on Byzantine composition under the instruction of Georgios Kordis in "Armos" editions, as well as a Fresco Art Seminar at the TheologicalSchool of Athens, under the instruction of Mihai Koman, Assistant Professor at the TheologicalSchool of Bucharest.

            He began acquiring a professional experience as early as in 2004, when he started co-operating on a professional basis with the laboratory of Anargyros Skaliotis and Maria Hatzivassiliou, whereas he has also collaborated with other hagiographers in the religious painting and decoration of temples, both in Athens and in the province of Greece.

            His works can be found in several temples and private collections all over Greece, and he has participated in various exhibitions of hagiography and painting.
